Hello and welcome to calm. Cool and connected. I'm your host, Dr.

Elizabeth. The Sunday scaries the Sunday night, blues Sunday, not so fun day, call it whatever you may, but there's certainly a reason that these rather bleak labels exist for heading into the experience of a new week. And if you experienced these feelings of dread or impending doom, you're certainly not alone.

A lot of people [00:01:00] struggle with the stress and the feelings of overwhelm that come along with the new. But also simultaneously they feel boring and monotonous. And this sense of being on a hamster wheel throughout the week can be really deflating and even disheartening for a lot of people. And I think that's why a lot of people really enjoy the weekends.

Not only because they are more relaxing and you're not on this mundane time schedule, but also there's opportunity for exploration, for adventures for really getting out of your comfort zone and trying new. So not only is exploration a fun and enjoyable way to break up the week, but it also reaps a lot of really amazing benefits for your mental health.

So maybe pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone a little bit could be really valuable at a whole lot of ways. The first way that it can be valuable is that it helps to reduce. So going on an adventure, it can be fun. It can be a good way to reduce stress, [00:02:00] to have you experienced new adventures. And it also gets you out of your daily routine.

So it can be a really good distraction from your normal weekly stress. Also, this gives you opportunity to do things such as relaxed or to sleep in lay by the pool, doing things that really allow you to lower your blood pressure, relax, and just calm down, which puts you in a much better head space. When you head into a new week.

Another reason that adventure and exploration is really beneficial is because it actually increases creativity and problem-solving. So when you engage yourself in new opportunities, new possibilities, when you allow yourself to be in situations where you have to be more open-minded and think about situations from a different perspective.

This actually leads to an increased ability to problem solve and to think outside of the box throughout your work week. And so these new exposures really allow your brain [00:03:00] to start to operate in a new way and the way the brain fires is the way that it wires. And so when we allow it to have these new experiences, it's not just firing the same way repeatedly, but it's being exposed to new things which becomes really helpful.

And your day to day function, Adventures and exploration also helps to improve your self esteem. So allowing yourself to get outside of your comfort zone can be really valuable as it leads to feelings of accomplishment and fulfillment.

It also you to do things that maybe you wouldn't have done prior, or maybe you were afraid to do. And so this is similar to the snowball effect where when you do something. That is more small. That is more minor that's outside of your comfort zone. This gives you the strength, the courage, the bravery to maybe do something a little bit bigger outside of your comfort zone.

The next time around also this adventure is an exploration or really valuable for enhancing your relationship. So it allows you to discover a new people, new places, [00:04:00] new things, which can be really helpful for your relationship with yourself. When you're putting yourself in these situations to have really cool experiences and broaden your horizons, being exposed to new things that helps with your relationship with.

It also helps with your relationship with others because you're building memories. You're having experiences that are once in a lifetime, and that are really unique, which creates connection and harmony between you and other people. So keep in mind to really use your weekends and your time off your PTO.

All of these times that we're so tempted just to continue in the hamster wheel, continue to get the laundry done and get the house cleaned on this time off, but maybe encourage yourself instead to step outside of your comfort zone. Try something new, have fun, relax, and keep in mind all of the benefits it truly has for your mental.
